Root Canal Treatment in Alkimos

person smiling during dental appointmentWhile the term “root canal” can be scary to hear, we want to help people understand that the process has advanced tremendously in recent years and is not the terrifying and painful procedure it once was!

At Alkimos Beach Dental Centre, we’re here to help you through your dental troubles, and we can’t wait to get your oral health back on track.

What Is a Root Canal?

A root canal removes infected tissue from the tooth’s roots beneath the gums. This is done to:

  • Save the part of the tooth above the gums
  • Minimise the risk of further damage
  • Prevent loss of the tooth entirely, requiring more extensive and expensive treatment.

This therapy is necessary when decay advances to the tooth’s root, resulting in infection and, often, severe pain.

What to Expect

If you experience a severe toothache or swelling, it’s important to see us right away so our dentists can address the issue and help prevent it from spreading. We’ll begin with a thorough examination of the tooth and gum tissues, and then we’ll let you know what we recommend.

While it’s our goal to save your natural teeth whenever possible, in some instances, an extraction will be the best approach. If that’s the case, we’ll talk with you about how to replace the tooth.

The root canal therapy will be done in three stages: the first focuses on relieving the pain, the second focuses on disinfecting the tooth and removing the bacteria that is causing the problem, and the last stage is filling in all the spaces and sealing the root.

Your Comfort Is Our Priority

You’ll be comfortably numb throughout the procedure. We offer STA Wand anaesthetic, which is an alternative to traditional syringe-style injections. This computerised system ensures that you’re comfortable – and it’s great for our needle-phobic patients.

For patients with anxiety, we can also offer oral sedation options to help you feel calm and relaxed throughout your treatment.
